Veterinary Boot Camp

This program is meant to be completed while working in a full-time general practice environment. Course lectures will be 4 two-hour interactive session/ month focusing on one major topic each month.  The students will be expected to spend some time out of lecture: 

• Working on interactive virtual cases
• Meeting with Clinical Advisors (1-2 hours / month)
• Having Office Hours with Course Leaders
• Spending 1 week in Live Training Sessions

All course work will be RACE certified offering a total of 50-70 CE credits for this program. 

Course Curriculum

Month 1- Medicine 101: This series of lectures will review general practice approaches to common every day disease concerns. Lecture format will be interactive case-based learning focusing on all aspects of handling general practice medicine.

Month 2 - Feline Medicine 101: This series of lectures will focus on the very different aspect of approaching, handling, and evaluating the feline patient while setting expectations and communication with the feline owner.  Lecture format will be interactive case-based learning focusing on all aspects of handling general practice medicine.

Month 3 - General Practice Emergency: This series will review and outline care for common general practice emergencies, understanding the true nature of emergency, developing emergency diagnostics and treatment protocols, and outlining a treatment plan and outcome with the client.

Month 4 - The Practical Side of Clinical Diagnostics:  This series of lectures will focus on clinical diagnostic testing and its utilization and need in general practice.  The components of clinical diagnostics discussed will be: 

• Blood Work
• Urinalysis
• Cytology
• Radiology / Ultrasound (FAST) 

Month 5 - Anesthesia / Pain Management: This series of lectures will focus on building an effective anesthesia team, developing strong guidelines for monitoring care, developing good post-operative pain control, and setting client expectations for the anesthetized patient. 

Month 6 - Dermatology: This series of lectures will focus on the importance of a thorough evaluation of the dermatology patient, a good dermatologic clinical diagnostic baseline, outlining treatment options for general practice dermatology, and setting expectations of treatment with the owner. 

Month 7 - Dentistry: This series of lectures will focus on the importance of a thorough evaluation of the dental patient, understanding the component of a good dental examination, dental cleaning and dental care, outlining treatment options for general practice dentistry, and setting expectations of treatment with the owner.

Month 8: Live Session (1 week) and Review / Examination:  This last week of study will be done on site reviewing all components of general practice, diagnostics, treatment, and client education.
